I Broke Down....

And bought a scale! I blame it on Becky at the gym who started me on this path over a year ago. Though she did put me on an actual diet (ick!) she also taught me some good things about building muscle (strength training), getting a decent amount of protein in your diet, and the evils of sugar. Okay, so I totally ignored the last thing...because it turns out I don't really enjoy living without carbs...but she was really supportive, and had me track not only my food intake but my wieght daily. It was actually better to see the up and down trends, so that when you get to the weigh in day, it's not a complete shock when you've put on 2 lbs of water weight.
Anyway, this information is only pertinent in light of another confession: I quit Weight Watchers. Or more acccurately, I rejoined Weight Watchers after quitting in December. I just felt like the program was no longer working for me, and also that my need for personal one-on-one attention was not being met. Seriously, why should you pay $40/month just to watch the weight slowly creep back on?
So I quit. And watched the weight creep back on (not so slowly) for free. May I add that this was also the toughest school year in quite a while? It was, and in addition to that, it's year I decided to buy a condo, right before the end of school. Anyway, stress was high and self-control was low...and chocolate was handy. You get the picture.
Finally, after settling into my condo, getting the internet up and running, and feeling that RELIEF I always feel after the school year is over and I've done all I can to get the little cherubs ready for first grade, I thought of Weight Watchers. Except this time it was Weight Watchers Online; half the price, and a much more individual and easy approach. I love all the little tools to track food intake, weight, and exercise. It's stuff I like doing anyway, working on little personal goals to help me feel successful and happy in my skin, and it seems to be working.
So yes, at the age of...not quite 35, I have my first scale. And I DON'T hate it!
