A Spring Getaway

I've had a few people ask me where I was going this spring. I guess my 2010 escape to California in search of spring was so legendary they figured it would become an annual outing.

But with all that's going on with work and at home, I've been too busy and broke-ish to plan any epic Spring getaways.
However, with my new resolve to be less anti-social, I've been accepting invitations left and right. And that has landed me at three, count them THREE theater productions!
First, I attended Northridge High's Guys and Dolls with some girlfriends a couple of weeks ago. I don't know about where you live, but where I'm from we do our best, but high school productions come off fairly amateurish at best. But, up here in Northern Utah, they are really amazing. I've been pleased to attend several since I moved to the area and am always astounded at the professionalism of these students.
Second, my friend Malinda invited me to attend the opera at WSU last weekend. I was a little nervous about it, but I'll try anything (at least once) and she had free tickets. I had never heard anything thing about Die Fledermaus, and can only claim a love of musical theater in general, but it was a lot of fun. There were none of the overly dramatic dying-for-love arias I had feared, and there was plenty of intrigue, plot twists, and humor. Malinda and I spent most of the time laughing, which is a pretty good way to spend an evening at the opera.
The above photo features the lead characters singing about the agony of parting. Don't they just look forlorn? :)

Lastly, Misty, Dionne and I attended a matinee performance of Jane Austen's Persuasion at BYU yesterday. This is my favorite Austen novel and I was excited to share the experience with Misty. We were amazed at the humor they were able to find in the production. They brought the characters to life and added extra dimensions of humanity and humor to each one. It was a thoroughly entertaining afternoon.
Louisa and Henrietta hang all over the handsome and extremely wealthy Captain Wentworth while a dutiful Anne plays the piano. (BYU not only entertains, it educates. From the playbill we learned that from what Wentworth earned during the Napoleonic Wars, he would have been a millionaire today. Wow. There's nothing a good man who's also good and wealthy ;)

So there you go! I haven't been able to escape to warmer climes, but I have enjoyed escaping to the theater! I recommend it to anyway who needs a little getaway!
